The History of EP

A Vision of Leadership

In 1929, Mrs. Lola M. Parker of Chicago, Illinois founded Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, a national business and professional women's organization. The sorority was established to offset the results caused by the great depression and to add prestige to career businesswomen and the field of business.

The Quest

The quest to charter Epsilon Psi (ΕΨ) began during the month of February 2017 when Iota Phi Lambda member Tonya Wilkerson-Jenkins contacted six (6) other Iota women in the Middle Tennessee area. In February a feasibility and discovery meeting was held in Nashville, TN. The meeting was attended by Kenya Adams, Vicky Anderson, Terry Gaines-Browne, Chrashona Goodwin, Cynthia Harris, Tonya Wilkerson-Jenkins and Brenda Williams. The nature of the meeting was to determine if adequate interest existed in the community to pursue Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc. requirements to reactivate or charter a chapter in the Middle Tennessee area. The meeting attendees felt that a sufficient interest did exist and the Southern Regional Director should be contacted to get more information. The group also decided to meet monthly to evaluate National requirements and give interested sorors an opportunity to secure more information. A list of interested sorors was developed and a contact listing was created. Additional business meetings were held during this month.

On February 16, 2018, eight business minded women decided that enough interest existed to move forward with the process required to charter a new Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc. It was also decided that the group would charter the chapter in Murfreesboro, TN and worked to complete the National requirements.

On February 28, 2017, the interest group officers were presented to Soror Denise Brandon, the Southern Regional Director of Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc. The officers included: Soror Tonya Wilkerson-Jenkins, President & Asst.Dean of Intake, Soror Brenda Williams, 1st Vice President, Soror Kenya Adams, 2nd Vice President & Dean of Intake, Soror Vicky Anderson, Recording Secretary, Soror Cynthia Harris, Journalist and Corresponding Secretary, Soror Stephanie Luntz, Asst. Recording Secretary, Soror Chrashona Goodwin, Treasurer, Soror Terry- Gaines-Browne, Financial Secretary.

On Saturday June 3, 2017, eight ambitious women chartered the Epsilon Psi (ΕΨ) Chapter of Iota Phi Lambda Sorority Incorporated, in Murfreesboro, TN. These women are setting forth the foundation of out signature programs including Toys "U" Can't Return, Iota Mothers Assistance Program, Future Iota Leaders, American Education Week and Business Week.
